Getting Started

Hear ye, hear ye, the administration has decreed that for those of you interested in participating in our weekly meetings in the park that you be briefed on a few rules and regulations before you can slaughter, maim, and wreak havoc on your fellow man. Therefore, here are few things you must know before we can let you kill your friends!

Before you can get started at Lyonesse or Dagorhir in general there are a few things that you need to do. First, if you are of the age of 18 or older you need to sign a waiver and fill out the appropriate forms. This is all very routine, however dagorhir is on about the same level as tackle football or rugby, it’s very intense and accidents can occur. If you aren’t 18, you can still join in the fun; we just need a legal guardian to fill out the forms in front of a proper Lyonesse member or take it to an official and have it notarized. Even in the days of kings and queens people had to follow the legal channels…it’s the same way now, just without the stocks as a form of law enforcement.

Now on to the reason you’re here, to fight of course! For the first few Sunday battles you can pick up you’re companions weapon (with his permission of course!) or use a weapon belonging to the realm, however after a few weeks if you decide you like the sport and this is something for you (and why wouldn’t it be?) then you’ll want to make your own weapons. It helps to reflect your personality, you can use weapons made specifically to your taste, and let’s face it your friends are less likely to grow irritated with you for always using theirs. You can find everything you need to know about weapons making on the official website, from materials, to regulations on weapon specifications. I also find a good starting point to be one of the regular weapons making sessions held by different people in the realm and by the realm.

We can’t very well have you fighting naked, now can we? What you’ll need to acquire is called garb, its medieval period fighting clothes and they’re necessary for any true warrior in Dagorhir. Much like the weapons, garb helps you develop a sense of character, and personality. You can find simple garb instructions also on the official dagorhir website. In addition to that, many people in the realm are willing to help new additions find or make garb, so just ask!
